Proper fitting hockey skates

Make sure to sharpen your skate blades after you purchase them. Most hockey stores will sharpen them for free when you purchase the skates. Get a regular cut on the blades if your just starting out. The size of the skates should be about 1 size smaller then your shoe size. It is a mistake to buy hockey skates that are to big. Your toes should just be able to wiggle and they should fit snuggly around your ankles. The skates should not be loose. When you lace up the skates there should be about 1 to 2 inches width across the laces. You can also get some extra padding to put under the tongue to help prevent skate bite.

I would recommend getting Graf Skates. If you have the money I feel you will not be disappointed. I skated in baur’s my whole life. I decided to take a plunge two years ago and try out grafs. They put you up on your toe so I feel like you have a better v start. They are the most comfortable skates I have ever bought. Side note: I sharpen my skates at a 5/8 it gives me a good bite for my stride as well as going side to side sliding for blue line calls ect.
